Thanksgiving Holiday

As we get ready to approach the Thanksgiving holiday this November, I want to encourage and remind you all to think of others during this season and incorporate a family tradition that you can do in your neighborhood or community. So I’ll share a few tips on some easy ways to do just that : GIVE

#1 Homeless shelters nursing homes or non profit organizations- Volunteer your time to help out or call and ask to speak with the director there is always something you can contribute. What I teach and lead by example with my daughter, is putting $25 bucks or more to the side and go to the local dollar store and pickup toiletries etc and wrap them in plastic zip lock bags and bake some delicious pies and either donate them or pass it out. Get creative allow your children or family to be involved with the process of giving! You can take 20 minutes and create beautiful “ thinking of you” note cards handwritten to give a stranger or someone in a nursing home they love to listen to your children read them a story. Think of your loved one if their in a nursing home go by and visit them and bring flowers or a card. It truly makes a difference by spreading love joy and peace to others.

#2 Cultural diversity - We all know at least ONE person that doesn’t look like us or that’s from another country. I encourage you all to think twice about that and include one dish or “theme” to celebrate and discuss on what you learned during the process. By doing this it makes for a great conversation with the kids ;) You can have a smaller table for the children to do arts and craft and play music and learn a dance etc whatever your choice however this will make guests and others feel important and included. Keep in mind, some cultures or faith/values doesn’t celebrate the standard Thanksgiving. In our family we perform a talent showcase lol which is always entertaining.

#3 Show hospitality ( for example: Airbnb)- You can always rent out your room if you have space. Nearly 51 million people travel during this season and if your good at showing hospitality to others coming in town near you to visit family/friends why not get paid and be a blessing. This will give me some motivation to clean out the one closet we all have that we’ve ignored.

#4 Gratitude- when love is in it, you’ll always WIN! I love showing gratitude and appreciation whenever I can. You’d be surprised of the blessings that comes your way by thinking of others. Send a message to someone whom you haven’t heard from in awhile, don’t wait for them to call you You call them and say “ hi or hello just called to say I love you and missed hearing your voice, hope you have a pleasant holiday.” It doesn’t have too be over the top ( CHECK ON YOUR STRONG FRIENDS) lol Also, go ahead and write a few handwritten notes. Send out a Thanksgiving greeting in the mail to relatives near and far. What I love to do is take some pictures of me and my daughter with my phone and send them to my local Walgreens/ CVS store and print out some cards (simple and quick)

#5 Stay healthy- After all that good food and stuffing, turkey and pies lol go for a nice walk in the park downtown with your loved ones or go outside in the yard and do some physical activities for fun and play games. It really does put you in the mood and the spirit of giving. Most of the time this is hard for people who have lost a loved one dear to their hearts and it can be depressing. Especially, when you’ve been the hostess and your relatives have passed. Think of them and send love and warm wishes to be a help through this grieving time. Go by the cemetery and give flowers to your ancestors. They’d appreciated the thought. But if you’re like me always busy on the go- take time to relax, reflect and release… It is imperative that we take care of our mind body and spirit. Healing is so vital to our daily success in life. Take time just for YOU during this break and make no apologies for it.

I pray for travelling grace and mercies upon you all and a pleasant warm Thanksgiving holiday. May this season be filled with the fruits of the spirit : love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Wishing you all reading this nothing but abundance and prosperity. Take care, sending love and light to you! ;) xoxo Namaste
